Chale has some very historical buildings and landmarks
within the Parish Boundary, here is a brief summary.
For more detailed information please follow each link.

The Hoy Monument
The Hoy Monument is a gracefulstone pillar which rises 72 feet into the windswept sky above St Catherine's Down. A plaque on the south face of the square base explains it was erected by Michael Hoy to commemorate the visit to Britain in 1814 of Tsar Alexander 1 of Russia
St Catherine's Oratory
St Catherine's Oratory, or Pepper Pot as it is better known locally, is Brtain's second oldest lighthouse. It was built in 1314 by Walter de Godeton as a penance for receiving 53 casks of wine that belonged to the Church.
St Andrew's Church
St Andrews church is part of a group of three churches including St Olav's and St Peter's this is clearer on the Wight Churches web site. The records that are still surviving show that the first church built on the site of St Andrews was built by Hugo de Vernon, the then Lord of the Manor, and was dedicated on 1st of December 1114 by Gifford, Bishop of Winchester.

There is little remaining of this original Church now, which would have been a very simple chapel, apart from possibly a small section of the north wall.
